Ninth Annual Easter Seals Day on the Bay Cruise
The popularity of this yearly event was evident as seen in so many bright eyes,
smiles and cheerful excitement displayed by our special friends with
disabilities and special needs, their families and caregivers. Easter Seals
provides programs and services for people with physical and developmental
disabilities to help them achieve their full potential. More requests come to
Easter Seal Staff to sail with us than can be accommodated; one obvious
limitation being the compact nature of our CYC harbor.
Herb Meyer envisioned this event around 2000. His leadership has given hundreds
the rare experience of sailing on the finest Bay in the world, and from
Commodores who see great value in Community involvement. It is estimated that
around 149 Easter Seal clients, family or companions took part this year.
Another 150 frontline and behind the scenes heroes who truly reflect the giving
heart of the Corinthian also took part. From Manager Ingo and his staff, Easter
Seal CEO, Craig King, his dedicated workers under Development Officer Dawn
Carlson, thirty Skippers and their crews, dockhands, USCG crews manning the SAR
Helo demonstrating rescue of a person in the water, a 47’ Cutter from our
neighbors located at CG Station Golden Gate, the Tiburon Fire Departments
technical fast response boat, an Auxiliarist crew on Safety vessel “Sunrise”,
plus seven CG Auxiliarist helpers who insured safety on the dock, all were
united as one proud team.
After coffee and donuts warmed the initial chill of morning, it was down to
business with “Welcome Aboards” from Vice Com. Sharon Barr, Rear Com. Aaron de
Zafra, Staff Com. Mike Moradzadeh, briefing by your Safety Officer and thanks
from Easter Seal Staff. Then it was off to the boats. On return to port, and
following a CYC luncheon served on the upper view decks, then presentation of
certificates to the Easter Seal folks, we were enriched by spontaneous, lovely
and surprising comments that flowed from their hearts; often bringing tears to
the noble, united team who made this special day possible. Obviously our “Day on
the Bay” has become an annual tradition bringing joy to all who participate.
Only the many participating“Team Members” and the folks we serve change slightly
from year to year. We “Done Good” and once again reaffirmed the Spirit and Heart
of Corinthian, Easter Seals and so many helpers who made this one of the finest
events ever. Be involved next year, you won’t regret it!
